But it would be better if we stay that way so we don't lose anything or anyone valuable to our kingdom.

War is a last resort, but it's unwise to fall back on a plan that has not been properly thought out. That what these threads are for, to be prepared in case, not to prepare for - war.

How should we prepare to take our enemies on?

Eventually, for recwars, we'll have on-board mock wars and simming / roleplaying lectures and practices etc. There's really no cause to prepare for real war, because I never intend on tarnishing Uantir's repuation with dastardly hacking and infiltration wars with anyone. Ever. Finally, aggressive war is likely completely out of the question considering that no matter how hard we voice our nation's flag it's still considered murder to have two lines of soliders killing each other in the nearest park. The closest we'd get to that would be akin to SCA / LARP type fighting. Though those would be physical recwars.

Your Royal Majesty, A few questions about this very sensitive subject. But first a statement. Micronations that defend their intellectual property, their forums and web pages, are NOT held in a negative light if they resort to the defense of their micronation, with the exception of those few micronations that hold an extreme pacifistic view point. Most of the "anti-micronational war" crowd are only using the argument as they would like to see the Intermicronational community in perfect, utopian, harmony and not a realistic look at what nations are supposed to do, which is to establish what is yours and have the means to defend it. While my micronation does not like the specter of micronational war, I must be honest, it has engaged in it in the distant past with stunningly victorious results. Again, we were in defense of our micronation and NEVER struck first. On the converse, some would even say that it was Attera was one of the micronations that both tested the "micronational war" concept and then helped the present Intermicronational community enter an age of peace and calm, through several conventions, and treaties. Namely the Scheheradze Convention which is by the way, Atteran drafted (through the hand of Emperor Mik'el Tzion I, under his previous moniker and Atteran Minister of Defense William Yeh between 2001 and 2005) see this article micropatriologia.wordpress.com/2008/04/01/apollo-sector-lecture/Recwars on the other hand, are also not even considered by my government as we see a recwar as a serious insult. The questions are the following... How can micronations be hypocritical to denounce active warfare even micronational, and in the same breath, embrace recwars that glorify destruction and killing, with no consequence? How can micronations simulate the brutality of war without mentioning the hundreds, thousands and even millions killed, maimed, raped, pillaged, and displaced? To a true warrior, such as one who has seen war in the Real World (Iraq on two occasions), both are disgusting and abhorrant, but one, especially in the defense of what is yours, namely your micronational home, IS a possible necessary evil. Again, these are only my personal views and also the view of all of the Atteran nations, and in no way condemning or placing a critique on your micronation's decision. Artaxian I

There is always a difference, in cyber warfare and real warfare, between defense and aggression. A true defensive party in a war does not retaliate except to assure prolonged defense. Example: if someone were to hack our forums than expelling them from the boards and creating a stronger defense is different than in turn tearing down their site, and just to make sure they don't try it again, crashing their hard drive. No matter what they do to our site, it can all be restored. It doesn't excuse counter destruction except crippling their ability to return to Uantir and cause more grief.
Also, to note, when that post was first written Uantir, and myself as a micronationalist, were much younger. I have, through time, grown a sour taste to the prospect of rec-wars. I remember wanting to be a part of everything, mostly because it all existed! It is less new now, and so I have less desire to be a part of everything, even things that don't interest me.
Real war is only a possibility in a very extreme situation. But if it comes to that, accepting attack is suicide.

Your Royal Majesty, It does indeed seem as though your kingdom and the United Solomonic Empire are on the same path with respect to this issue. To use a quote of yours, I'll give you a look into Atteran past history to show that we have matured micronationaly and pose no military threat to your nation and are here only for the pursuit of micronational good will and brotherhood. Our methods of dealing with hostile micronations are through diplomacy and the maintenence of our anti-warfare laws and conventions. Yet, the USE does still maintain active knowledge of forum manipulation, forum busting viruses, web page hacking ect. Just in case talking things out is no longer viable.
Here's your quote...
We engaged a micronation called the Socialist Democratic Republic of Marinidad in a war that would resemble your quote on 8 June 2000. At that time our nation was called the Imperial Rasinate of Q'attera-Macusiaa. This situation was all brought about by Marinidad trying to make a name for itself at the expense of us and since this was during the "Golden Age" of micronationalism, more people were able to witness the event as it played out. The micronational media covered this war in great detail, especially through a Micronations.net precursor called Micronations today. At the time, the Imperial Rasinate was a very popular micronation that was in all of the major Intermicronational Organizations, very active in the Intermicronational community and very militaristic to the core.
What triggered this event was that our foreign minister Rasana Marie sent a simple e-mail message to the Marinidad government expressing a desire to open diplomatic relations. The response from the Marinidad government was a message stating that since our micronation's name was too difficult to pronounce, since we were ruled by a dictator, they were going to "liberate" us from the clutches of the nobility. At first, there was laughter throughout the Atteran nobility and then anger once everyone who had their e-mail addresses listed on the national webpage, soon found that there were hundreds of messages from Marinidad claiming victory over us.
Imperial Ras Diga Makonnen IV, (who is now Emperor Mik'el Tzion I), who was the prime minister of the Imperial Rasinate, sent a letter to Marinidad's President Lee and their foriegn minister, Alex Tumotolo, stating that their actions should stop immediately as the Imperial Rasinate would "go our way, and leave you in peace".
The Marinidadi response was to send over 800 e-mails of a nuclear blast to the Imperial Ras. The next day on the 7th of June, the Imperial Ras again, pleaded for the Marinidadi government to desist and was met with the response from President Lee, "We are going to erase your micronation!"
Now, faced with that, and continuing coverage from the Micronations Today news service, who reported about Marinidadi aggression, the Imperial Ras was forced by the Yezawd Derg (parliament) to declare war or risk being removed from power.
On 8 June at midnight, Ras Robert Markel and Ras Daniel Rodriguez of the Shagadaan Secret service, sent agents into Marinidad who accepted them as citizens as they were the ones who notified Micronations Today of the impending attack and wanted the publicity to drive up their citizenship numbers. At 6 AM, Imperial Ras Diga gave the Marinidadis their final ultimatum which stated that all was needed was a simple public apology and promises to stop flooding Atteran e-mail accounts. The ultimatum was rebuffed with course language. At 6 PM, with the "new" Marinidadi citizens in place, the order was given by Imperial Ras Diga to "disrupt, take over and forever destroy Marinidad. Do not leave anything standing, not even their website if you can pull their mother's panties down, do that too!"
To sum it all up, the Shagadaan were thorough. They used the Marinidadi guest book as their means of gaining entry into their website. After they gained control of the guest book, they gained entry into the website and started altering everything, and deleated any entry point to the website, by changing the password to ensure they had time to either erase important historical accounts of Marinidad, or to keep out any Marinidadi citizen that would stop them. By the 9th, the Marinidad government was in shambles, Attera gained it's apology, the disbanding of Marinidad as a micronation as well as a formal surrender of the Marinidad name as compensation for our troubles.
What occurred after was a tide of great support from the Intermicronational community, as this not only proved that micronations could fight, but also level massive damage. There was a heated debate as to if micronations could even fight, but this action put that to rest, being one of the first major "micronational wars" to be viewed by a large audience.
Of course, I am not personally proud of that fact, but this was an opportunity and experiment that needed a solution, if you were to look at it from my government's eyes.
So, the majority of the "younger" micronations cheered as Marinidad got its "comeuppance" but there were a few detractors who were pretty vocal, as they were the older, more established micronations who soon saw their day on top of the micronational heap was over, as the Imperial Rasinate soon became more influential.
Based on that past experience, we formulated our past policy of micronational war, which was... Only fight after there are no other means to make the opposing party desist in it's hostile actions. Yet when we fight, ensure that there is so much damage that the hostile party will never again be in a position to attack you in the future. Of course, doing this also becomes a major issue in itself as others stop seeing you in the same light. Mistrust and fear often become the reality.
Now, if things get out of hand, we will often play on the use of reputation, threat and even just your everyday "cold war" or plain old diplomatic isolation would be used in future disagreements, which for us Atterans would be a better way of doing things as we began conducting our business in this fashion, since 2003. It's more civil, less damaging to diplomatic relations, and nobody has to lose control of their hard written work.
So, again, I must commend you on gaining that knowledge in a much shorter time than it took us! ;D Lesson that we Atterans have learned: Keep your micronation's reputation intact and please avoid the issue if you can!
