Title: The Cherokee Herbal: Native plant medicines from the four directions Author: J T Garrett Year Published: 2003 Publisher: Bear & Company
Plot Summary: A collection of the medicinal uses of herbs, roots and trees, as known by the Cherokee. It's as spiritual as it is medical.
Why I recommend the book: It has been the most helpful book in my shelves these past months - now we live in the country, getting to the shops is not easy, so i've had to learn to make do - When a housemate has a complaint, I use this book to find out what I can use to fix, or ease, their problem. For example - cranberries cure urinery tract infections. It's incredibly speedy. But so does sage, echinacea and peppermint. (admittedly, the peppermint takes a day and a half, but that's still a lot quicker then antibiotics!)
And interestingly enough, most of the plants listed are either in my tea chest, or my herb and spice racks.
