This is something I've become familiar with over the last four weeks. My housemates foot still resembles gravel, but it's healing well.
The four most important things you'll need:
Pain killers (we've been using Ibuprofen)
Comfrey
Cacao (in the bean form, crushed form, powdered form or in chocolate)
Warm material
Pain Killers: Take them when you need them, and when you don't, but you might, take them. Example: Matt only takes them during the day if he needs them, but at bed time, he takes them regardless, so he doesn't wake up in the middle of the night.
Comfrey: I learnt this from the woman at the health food shop: Comfrey tea can help to mend bones, and rubbing comfrey cream as close to the affected area as possible brings relief about 15 minutes after (might be sooner or later, Matt said it's 15 minutes for him, I don't know about the tea, as Matt won't drink it)
Cacao (chocolate beans): I love this one, it's useful for a wide variety of ailments. In this instantance, it helps to reduce cramps. It's one of the richest sources of magnesium known. The best form: organic raw beans, organic raw powder (add to smoothies or hot chocolate) or bitter chocolate. And with the hot chocolate, you can add chili which speeds it around your system faster, bringing relief sooner. Matt has about three of these a day.
Warm material: when the cold sets into the broken bones, it hurts. This has been the life saver at night,: a hikers sock rolled back and carefully rolled down his cast at night and during cold days. It still wasn't warm enough (the nights here started dipping below 3C inside the house) so I cut out a segment of an old gown and added it as a sock over the sock, and it's kept his foot fine at night since.
Any questions, any other ideas, or any other problems encountered, please ask, and i'd been happy to look into it.
