I love ballet, and I accidentally stumbled across this series on ebay, bought the first book and I was hooked! (I'm now waiting for book three to arrive so I can devour it too.)
Title: A Dream of Sadlers Wells Author: Lorna Hill Year Published: 1950 (reprinted since) Publisher: (my copy) Piccolo
Plot Summary: When Veronica's father suddenly dies, she is sent far from her beloved London, ballet studio and Madame to live in the cold north of England with her rich relatives. While there she makes friends with two of her cousins, and continues to practise her passion - ballet - in secret. A year passes and she is able to get herself ballet lessons under the pretense of learning it to become a dance teacher.
Why I recommend the book: The descriptions of the landscapes are dazzling and acute, the characters are defined, complex and you can really emphathize with them. An absolutely beautiful story for anyone who is a fan of older times when life was slower.
