Royal Law is the core list of laws that govern all of Uantir, regardless of Territory. Provincial law can add to, but not take away from, Royal Law.
Law
The Superiority of the Crown
The Authority of the Crown is absolute. The Monarchy's word is law. Though it should occur rarely, and only in defense of individual sovereignty, any conflict between the Monarchy and other established Uantiri governments are resolved without question in favor of The Crown. All citizens of Uantir owe allegiance to the Crown, understanding that allegiance does not equate to subservience or servitude, and will show due respect both in regards to their authority and in the manner of common decency. The Crown returns this respect by understanding that there is a line between dissent and disrespect, acknowledging and maintaining cognizance of that line, and at all times acting as the arbitrator between the individual citizenry and the aristocracy.
The Sovereignty of the Citizen
The sanctity of the individual citizen’s sovereignty is to be held paramount in all Uantiri law, edict, rules, and regulations. A right and a privilege are two different things. Uantir citizen’s right are immutable and cannot be altered, diminished, removed, or altered by any act of the government or majority. These rights listed are not something granted by the government, they are acknowledgements of basic constants for human beings that transcend any individual or organization. Each Uantiri Citizen is ultimately responsible for their actions and their influences in the community around them. Every citizen is born with the freedom to conduct their life in any way they see fit as long as it does not infringe on another’s right to do the same. All Uantiri law must abide by these central principles. Any restriction on an individual’s liberty must be for the purpose of ensuring equal access to these liberties for all members of society. The government is required to encourage an environment of equal opportunity, but not stark equality. It is up to the individual citizen to make use of these liberties to forge their own achievements. Anything a government produces that in any way restricts, regulates, infringes, limits, removes, infringes, or alters any of these liberties is unlawful. Rights and scenarios include, but are not limited to the:
• freedom to own, operate, and carry (openly or concealed) weapons.
• freedom of speech, petition, peaceful assembly, and the right to redress grievances to the government
• freedom to be secure in their (listed but not limited to) persons, property, homes, residences, papers, computers, PDAs, notepads, smartphones, and effects against entry, searches, or seizures without consent or issued warrant.
• freedom against arrest or indefinite detainment without charge.
• freedom from imprisonment without a trial by jury.
• freedom against punishment that does not fit the crime, is cruel or unusual, and excessive bail.
Regarding Life
A human life is something that cannot be returned when taken nor can it be adequately replaced by money or property. The respect for life is sacred. There are multiple lawful and unlawful scenarios with which a life can be taken.
Murder is the premeditated killing of another human being and is a crime punishable by banishment, imprisonment, or death in addition to reparations as decided by a court of law.
Manslaughter is the killing of a human due to negligence, irresponsibility, carelessness, or recklessness and is punishable by banishment, imprisonment, or death in addition to reparations as decided by a court of law.
While life may be sacred, the life of an aggressor is rendered forfeit as soon as they have treaded on another’s sanctity of life in an unlawful manner. The taking of a life in self-defense is not a crime and no Uantiri can be burdened with a trial to defend their actions unless the initial investigating law enforcement agency suspects misconduct.
In the event of war it is every citizen’s and Aristocrat's duty and obligation to kill armed and engaging enemy combatants on sight, regardless of current affiliation with the military or involvement in strategically oriented battles. This cultural imperative to ensure that no invader finds rest during an invasion of Uantiri soil generates a psychological aversion that prevents military action against Uantiri territory due to fear of overwhelming odds. This safety net saves innocent lives by providing a barrier to conflict that wards away aggression and creates a safer nation.
Regarding The Duel
Dueling is a lawful and legally binding method of settling disputes that cannot be settled by diplomacy.
Anyone may designate a champion to conduct a duel on their behalf. For protection of the monarchy from assassination attempts, the King, Queen and Princes are required to name a champion to fight a duel issued by anyone of lesser title. A duel with non-lethal weapons must be fought without a champion.
Death during a duel can be considered murder or manslaughter unless the duel was established as to the death as part of the terms.
Striking another Uantiri with a fist or glove can be considered a challenge to a duel.
Regarding Property
The citizen is the sovereign owner of their own property. Theft of said property is a crime punishable by reparation of twice the value of the item(s) stolen to the owner. Failure to pay may incur garnished wages, forfeiture of property, or a term of indentured servitude as decided by a court of law.
Regarding Contracts
When a contract is signed, you agree to any stipulations that the contract specifies. If you do not agree with any part of the contract that should be discussed before you sign and if you sign anyway it is saying that the price you do not like is one you agree to pay anyway. One will be held by law to account for the full of one's contract. Oral contracts are a matter of honor and grounds for duel, but cannot be enforced by court. Repeated accounts of dishonesty of oral contract or refusal to accept a duel will tarnish one's reputation and could result in a loss of title or the inhibition from obtaining one.
Regarding the Sanctity of Body
Consent must be given for personal contact, especially that of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment, assault, and rape are serious crimes that are punishable by imprisonment, banishment, reparation, and even death as decided by a court of law.
Regarding Literacy
Proper punctuation and capitalization is required at all times. Grammar and spelling are expected to be accurate within reasonable limitations, especially in official matters. Net speak, "1337" speak, and other barbarous forms of syntax/slang are not acceptable. Repeated inability to respect the utility of the English language can result in banishment.
Regarding Language
English is the official language of the Kingdom. No print in any other language will be larger or more pronounced than the English on any public sign, document etc.
The Latin or Ogham alphabets are acceptable, as long as the language is English.
Regarding Medical Advertisement
No Pharmaceutical or medical company may advertise their product outside medical journals and scientific publications. This includes all public marketing and campaigning. Your health is between you and your doctor, it's not something to be sold.
Regarding Marriage
Marriages are a matter of relationship and religion, not a matter of state. A marriage is a contract between consenting adults.
