Major Characters
- The Hitman: he cannot be remembered in a way similar but not identical to the way ‘The Silence’ aliens work in the most recent season of Dr. Who. Unlike Dr. Who, where the moment you look away you forget they exist or that you’ve even seen them, the main character has more presence than that and is simply anonymous. No one who sees him can remember who he is, what his name was etc. People remember what he’s done, but could never point him out of a crowd, and would act as if they’d never known him no matter how many times they’ve met him. Likewise, he’s so vague that many people think they know he’s someone they know. He’s also invulnerable to damage and doesn’t age. They all fit together, I’m just not sure why yet. So this makes him the ultimate hitman, as he doesn’t even have to try very hard to get away without being arrested. That coupled with his invulnerability he doesn’t have to try very hard to avoid body guards etc. He’s been alive a while, possibly as far back as the civil war ish and has steadily grown a little loopy considering the isolation. Constantly smokes Backwoods.
- Riley: Unwittingly has the power to nullify the supernatural powers of others. Is part of a prophecy that spells the Hitman’s undoing as well as the key to destroying the Nemesis. The Hitman and the Nemesis are linked in some way, and if the visions of Brannigan’s are any indication Riley is the key to the Nemesis’s domination of the world or not.
- The Fortune Teller: Originally gave the Hitman his power or simply told him of a fate that was bound to happen anyway. Either way, in the eyes of the hitman, she is responsible for his power. She is an oracle of sorts, tells the future in a cryptic manner and issues a number of prophecies over the course of the story, including the one that triggers the kidnapping.
- Brannigan: Has the power to see the future or random impressions through contact with objects or people. His ability to pick up an object and know its owner or have a vision of the last time it was used aids him in his job as a as a private investigator and journalist. He has been working, very unsuccessfully, to break down the crime syndicate of the Nemesis. Also has an interest in the Hitman, having interacted with his exploits and lack of existence. The hitman usually comes up as a pair of shoes or a close-up on his reflective sunglasses or some other completely unidentifiable image. Many of his visions as the story progress come in ‘parallel’ and he can see both sides of the story, if the Nemesis is victorious or if Riley is. It is through his visions that it becomes apparent that the Nemesis must be stopped for the sake of the world.
- Nemesis: Leader of a crime ring that may span the entire United States. Has the power to accurately read other people’s intentions and as such always out-maneuvers his opponents. Will somehow come to great power and spread much crime and evil if he goes unchecked. Not sure why yet.
- Sidekick: Brannigan’s side kick, more of a follower, is a conspiracy theorist and provides a useful tid bit of information now and again, though mostly comic relief. Has no powers (probably.)
Minor / Supporting Characters
- The Knower / Watcher (something): a pivotal minor character. An employee of Nemesis, he has a prophetic power that has helped the Nemesis create such a strong criminal syndicate. Stares into a (wall of) snowy television sets and is able to augure important people and where they will be, as well as items and officials. For one it's essential in the Nemesis's evasion of authorities and two it allows him to be in contact with the Hitman. Though the KNower / Watcher does not see him, he can identify where 'the person who doesn't exist' will be and what he may be doing. His power to watch / know the Hitman is sketchy at best.
I'll keep this thread updated as discussion and work on the characters proceeds.
