Qualifying with certain weapons is a requirement every six months in the Army. People can look at the qualifications a number of different ways. Most people look at the minimum score necessary to get by.
I see it as a competition and a testiment to the training I do personally, outside the Army. Today on the pistol qualification I shot 40 out of 40 and was the only one in my firing order to do so (others may after me, but I'm not around to watch. For an hour or so I am officially the best shot in the company.)
Thugh I didn't get a perfect 40 out of 40 on the rifle qualification, I did get a 38 out of 40, which is still an Expert qualification.
