Her Majesty and I completed the two mile, obstacle laden course organized and hosted by Ruckus Run Kansas City! For those who are unfamiliar, races like Ruckus Run are not just distance runs, but involve mud pits, crawling under obstacles, climbing over obstacles and otherwise testing body and mind in ways that long distance runs do not.
We had a blast, and did pretty well coming in at 32 minutes 45 seconds. We felt like we may have been going a bit slow, but we finished in the middle of the pack, with plenty of people still running when we were done.
Princess Kaelyn came along to watch, as much as she could under her hat.
One of the many obstacles involved the air ropes, which were up there with one of the more exciting. They required a deceptive amount of core strength.
The sheer amount of focus coming from Her Majesty is enough to set fire to the ropes themselves.
Wall climbs are easier when the wall (and your shoes) are not covered in mud.
Monkey bars are not our strength, but we showed them who's boss regardless.
Her Majesty does not have the most confidence in heights, and as the apex of this net is about 20 feet in the air it took a bit of encouragement from myself to overcome her vertigo.
The race was punctuated by half a dozen over and under platforms, all of which were filled with mud to crawl through.
To get to the finish line requires climbing 'Mount Ruckmore' which involves piles of discarded tires, ladders and rope nets. At the end you go down this high slide (and get dumped into a pile of straw.) Rachel slides much faster than I do.
VICTORY!
